Description The article analyses the meaning and use of online social networks by the Czech policy-making institutions representing the executive, legislative and judicial power as well as independent, state-established bodies. While using methods of descriptive qualitative analysis and interpretative quantitative analysis, the paper examines whether the possibilities of social networks are generally used, and how the state institutions work with them. Secondary, it also determines whether the communication of public institutions on the online social networks is used in more unidirectional or bidirectional way – as the second possibility is often mentioned as one of the advantages of the new media. The research therefore analyses how this possibility is fulfilled by the selected public institutions.
