Description | This contribution deals with the issues of the changes of the mentality of Catholic priests in the first half of the 20th century. It focuses, above all, on the so called “priestly imagination”, which means the process of reception, creating and handing over of various images of priesthood and notions about the Church, the society, and the modern world and his future development. The author analyses this topic using the specific example of the Czech priests, who were influenced by the cultural work of the famous visionary and mystic Josef Florian. The author presents the personal and emotional relationship to papacy, dreams, miracles, revelations and prophecies, as a part of the above mentioned imagination. These inspirations, mostly of a foreign origin, were – increasingly around wartime – understood by these priests as the driving forces in history and became interesting sources of motivation and “mobilization” in their pastoral service. |
