Description | Phantom pain results in up to 85 % of amputees. It is very difficult to treat and remains puzzling pheno- menon. This article focuses on practical application of hypnosis in treating phantom limb pain as a pro- mising approach to phantom pain management. Review of studies using hypnotherapy is introduced as an opportunity for practicing hypnotherapist to familiarize themselves with possible proceedings. The outcome reports for hypnotherapy have been mainly positive and show a reduction in phantom limb pain as can be also seen in four author ´s case studies included. However, firm conclusion cannot be made as we lack well controlled and randomized trials of effectiveness of hypnotherapy in the treatment of phantom limb pain. |
