Description | Health literacy (HL) is a significant determinant in women's and children's health. It is a precondition for advanced health awareness in individuals and consequently their responsible behavior both of which reinforces healthy life style choices and put these into practice within families; at the same time supporting health and children's prenatal and postnatal physiological development. Simultaneously, health illiteracy in women has a negative influence on social health awareness which results in health defects, complications during pregnancy and labor, it also plays its role in later stages of a woman's and child's lives. It is midwives who are the key protagonists acting in the aforementioned areas with their specific educational skills and competences. |
