Citation
Description This paper analyses the impact of war and gradual suppression (decline) of domestic market to the circulation of films in the network of Protectorate cinema theatres and the span of time they were being screened there. In this respect, in points out the unique phenomenon of reprises and rescreenings of Czech, usually first republic films and interprets it in context of the diversification efforts of the cinema programmes as well as in context of striving to reinforce the Czech cultural element in the cinema theatres. The reconstruction is based on film programmes in Brno and Prague and shows how German films, with their unquestionably growing popularity after 1942, circulated in larger numbers, albeit in relatively short cycles, as opposed to Czech films, which were in circulation for longer periods of time, despite their smaller numbers and legislative restrictions.
