Description The key wars, which formed the Western society, were the secessionist wars. Recent European Union is also the subject to numerous secessionist “cold-wars” of the political forces and national movements seeking either to reach the greater autonomy within the existing state or to gain the full independence. Secession in kind is also Brexit. The aim of this contribution is therefore to define the secession in terms of the property rights and to prove where and when the bargaining approach can offer better solution in comparison to the armed conflicts. The basic secessionist model is developed and it is proved that if the territory rights are clearly recognized, it is effective for both regions to solve the secessionist question by the means of trade. The armed conflict is less effective as it leads to the depreciation of the secessionist’s territory as well as to the high military expenditures of the maternal region.
