Description | Chapter in the prestigious book which is dedicated to the persecution of the Catholic Church in Central and Eastern Europe in the times of communist regimes is devoted to the topic of Catholic priests. Catholic priests belonged to one of the most persecuted social groups in Czechoslovakia - together with farmers and tradesmen. It was caused mainly by the fact that the vast majority of them were not willing to the collaboration with godless communism. Although the priests had the potential advantage (compared with farmers and tradesmen) that to avoid to the persecution from the state they could "only" make some ideological concessions and bending their backbones, many of them did not do so and remain faithful to the Church, the Pope, the bishops and their faith at the cost of great suffering. |
