Description Our paper analyses a recent trend of an increased diversity in international innovation in terms of its origin and location. Our conceptual framework highlights the under-researched phenomenon of firms from emerging markets investing in innovation in other emerging markets. We also analyse regional/global aspects such as investment by firms from Australasia and investment in Central and Eastern Europe. Our empirical analysis, based on interviews and secondary data, aims to explain the unique motives and behaviours of Australasian innovation investors in Europe and of innovation investors in Emerging Europe. The exploratory study is a step towards a theory of internationalisation of innovation that would go beyond models originating from Northern hemisphere scholars influenced by North-North (developed-developed) or emerging-developed innovation investment paradigms.
