Description | Development of molecular biology techniques has led to more extensive research in the field of microbiota, especially gut flora, since this has the greatest impact on the host's health. Animal studies have confirmed the impact of microbiota on obesity. A differing composition of microbiota has also been found in obese mice as compared to lean ones. The results of human studies are more heterogeneous. In connection with the probable impact of microbiota on obesity, the effect of diet, probiotics and prebiotics on gut bacteria has been researched. Research has confirmed that changes in diet can lead to an increase of certain bacteria, depending on the type of diet. Reviews did not confirm the impact of probiotics and prebiotics on obesity. Published results are not consistent, yet this does not mean that there is no relation. Interactions between diet, microbiota and obesity are very complex; therefore, it is necessary to realize many more studies in order to clarify these relations. |
