Description | This article considers how the concept of the global music media spectacle has evolved and the extent to which it remains effective as a means to stimulate transnational civic awareness, engagement, and activism. Comparing Live 8 (2005) with its historical antecedent Live Aid (1985) reveals how the dynamics of such spectacles have developed as platforms for political communication while posing important questions regarding the types of engagement they stimulate and their efficacy to manifest sustained political movements. |
