Description | Scapulars were typical features of the rich spitirual world of people living in the baroque period. Their preservation in the crypt of the Church of St. James, Brno provides a unique insight into the broad issue of the clash between the Catholic religion, veneration of saints and faith in their miraculous powers on the part of ordinary people. A detailed iconographic analysis of several preserved items is placed in the historical context in terms of time and provenance. The precious series from the mid-17 centrury - mid-18 century can thus serve as an analogy for similar collections from the rerritory of the Czech Republic. |
