Description | This text examines the comic-book adaptation of The Good Soldier Švejk: His Fortunes in the First World War, which was created by the Serbian comic-book artist, Ivan Šenšin, at the end of the 1930s and the start of the 1940s. There is a focus on Šenšin’s original contribution and approach to the character of Josef Švejk, which although being based on Lada’s designs and original text, complements it in many ways and finds its own interpretation. Šenšin’s Hrabri vojnik Švejk is an example of a modern comic book from the period which documents the inter-cultural relationships between Czechs and Serbs, even at the level of comic books. |
