| Description | Imperial Council member T. G. Masaryk established the first serious contacts with the milieu of Serbs from the former Kingdom of Serbia especially in connection with the "High treason trial", later dubbed the Friedjung trial. The defence of Serb politicians from the Croatian Diet, charged whit Panslav conspiracy and intrigues in league whit Serbia, made Masaryk a man of the European renown and opened his way to the highest echelons of the Kingdom of Serbia, which he visited five times in 1912 alone. During one of his visits, he expressed the wish to be acquainted whit the Serb countryside. Masaryk’s trip to Šumadija "the Serb Piedmont", ended whit his alleged fraternisation whit a wealthy farmer named Jeremija Nedić. After Masaryk became the president of Czechoslovakia, Nedić boasted of his "close friend" and after many tries, he eventually met Masaryk (in chateau Lány). As a result, he attracted the interest of both Czech and Serb public, becoming one of the symbols of Czechoslovak-Yugoslav solidarity. He managed to make a real sensation from a long forgotten event.
