Description The contribution represents the experience of merging the field of sociological analysis and the interpretation of urban space with architectural and artistic realizations in three time frames, before, during and after realization. Examples are cooperation on the preparation of architectural designs for the City of Brno in the studio at the TUL Department of Urbanism in the spring of 2017, the implementation of the thematic book on the City Park in Ostrava in the Graphic Design Studio of the University of Architecture in the spring of 2017, and the sociological reflection of the Neighbourhood Visual Arts project realized by students of the Faculty of Art and Design UJEP in cooperation with the “transitdisplay” gallery in winter 2016. The communication of sociology with the social field of architecture or art differs qualitatively from communication within the social science field or from communication with the social field of self-government and public policy. Instead of negotiating the persuasiveness and usefulness of the idea, or moderating public law implementations and legislative adjustments, the interpretations and concepts presented here are reflected in the material solutions, whether they are building realizations or artistic objects and gestures. American philosopher Arthur Coleman Danto introduced the concept of transfiguration into art theory in his most famous book The Transfiguration of the Commonplace (1984). The concept of transfiguration expresses the conversion of the subject of ordinary use into an artistic object. In the discussion part of my contribution, I look at the concept of transfiguration in relation to socio-scientific discourse. What exactly does an architect or artist bring to a sociological discourse conflict before, during or after the creation of an architectural design or artistic gesture? Is this inspiration like any other, or is the socio-scientific discourse that was born in the process of modernization and social transformation with this related process, something specific?
