Description Within contemporary Russian literature, there is a segment that reflects on Russian history of the 20th century, often in the context of a critical attitude to the current Russian political regime (Ulitskaya, Chizhova, Lebedev, Shevelev, etc.). This paper presents a detailed study of the Czech reception of contemporary Russian literature on a sample of Russian books published in Czech in 2016. In that year, a hundred books were translated from Russian to Czech, but only ten of them represented contemporary Russian fiction. A detailed analysis of the reviews of these books in Czech magazines and newspapers shows that Czech readers are being introduced primarily to books that depict Russia as a security threat. This aspect is overwhelmingly present in the reviews and completely eclipses any literary and artistic values, to the extent that publications without political pretensions are completely ignored by Czech reviewers.
