Description E-commerce businessmen use price algorithms more and more often. As such algorithms may in real time set and align prices with competitors, they may fulfill some of the characteristics of illegal anticompetitive conduct. In order to determine for each of the kinds of price algorithms, as well as for each of the kinds of cooperation among them, whether it represents legal and legitimate conduct, or an infringement of competition law, it is necessary to first analyze the notion of "conscious parallelism". The author defines conscious parallelism in opposition to anticompetitive agreements, concerted practices and collective dominance. Furthermore, he analyzes various kinds of price algorithms and determines under what conditions they are illegal.
