Description | This paper aims to analyze the situations when people in antiquity turned to magic to find the solution to a conflict. As the basis for the research serves the epigraphic evidence, mainly the Latin curse tablets, and Greek magical papyri. The paper is divided into two main parts – first one based on the research questions: Which conflicts were dealt with by the means magic in antiquity? and Why these were the areas and types of conflicts the most often found in curse tablets? The second part of the paper focuses on the reasons for using magic in general and proposes the answer to the question: Why people in antiquity turned to magic? |
