Description | This paper deals with the image of Bosnia and its inhabitans in the first modern travelogues from this land written by Croatian authors. The works examined are Matija Mažuranić's A Glance into Ottoman Bosnia (1842) and Travels in Bosnia (1858) by Ivan Kukuljević Sakcinski. Both writers'views of this land - so close to their own motherland geographically, historically and ethnically - were inevitably influenced by their national and ideological background. The paper concentrates on the characterization of the nature and degree of such influence on the image of Bosnia and Bosnians presented in their travelogues. |
