Description The teaching of modern languages is becoming increasingly prominent in the field of methodology and didactics of foreign languages. This paper defines the teaching styles and strategies that are used in the teaching of Russian as a foreign language at the Faculty of Economics and Administration and the Faculty of Science of Masaryk University (Czech Republic). The aim of the article is to point out the need for the individual assessment of the learning styles and strategies of students, which are directly related to the teaching styles and strategies of the instructor. It is equally important to develop creativity in students in order to build language competencies. Practical examples of teaching Russian for specific purposes indicate the importance of activating student motivation. In addition to increasing the level of (specialized) knowledge of the foreign language, students actually expand their knowledge of Russian history and culture during the lessons, which is one of the necessary steps in the teaching of a foreign language.
