Description A murder as an intentional homicide of another person has forever belonged to the most severe crimes of so-called general criminality. It is the breach of a fundamental right to life which triggers a strict social response crystalizing into a relatively strict regulation with high statutory maxima and draws a permanent attention of the public. This regulation has undergone a certain historical development when eras of a stricter regulation have been followed with eras of a more lenient regulation always regarding the political situation. Recently, persistent streams of humanisation and individualisation can be observed also in this field both in relation to the regulation of bodies of crimes of a murder and possible bodies of crimes special thereto as well as in relation to sentencing these crimes. This paper consists of five parts which bring together a historical review with present time. Firstly, the reader is acquainted with criminological aspects of the problem, namely with the basic statistics, after that also with the development of the legal regulation of this crime, then an analysis of a current legal regulation follows. The next part deals with a historical development and regulation of so-called euthanasia, the final part presents the reader with the development and current state of sentencing of murder.
