| Description | The aim of the lecture is a critical reflection of the popular theses about the "Christian roots" of European culture(s), or about Christianity as a "traditional religion of Europeans". In these regards the lecture points out especially a problematic history of the process of Christianization in the continent, a resistance of Pagan elements in nominally "Christian" cultures, as well as a romantic (re)discovery of the Paganism in modern era coming hand by hand with a process of secularization and - in some regard - also with a "twilight" of Christianity in Western countries. |
