Description | The chapter deals with the theme of medialization of society in the dramas of the contemporary Czech director and playwright David Drábek (b. 1970). It focuses on the theatre plays in which the author portrays vices of television programmes and computer games, but also on his radio plays which use the potential of the sound medium to caricature stereotypes of radio broadcasting. In his works, the playwright aims to show how virtual reality replaces the reality itself and how the informative role of the media is forced out by its entertaining role. If David Drábek’s dramas capture the hollowness of human communication and depict the man devoured by the reality of the media, they also reflect the social chaos in its hyperbolised form. |
