| Description | The book series "Classics of Eastern European Film", inaugurated by Christian Kampkötter, Peter Klimczak and Christer Petersen in 2015, aims to "promote the film production of Eastern European countries and nations as well as their changing history to a German-speaking audience for the first time on the basis of their film classics to bring them closer to each other in a comprehensive way". The editors offer a refreshing understanding of the term "classic" and allow a meaningful (re-)definition of the canon of national film history. Apart from partial reservations, this publication thus provides a stimulating and worth reading contribution to the debate on how such insights into national film historiographies should be conceived. |
