Description | There were various modes to emphasize Christian unity within the early medieval Rome. It was achieved through liturgical practices (stational liturgy, fermentum), but also through images. This paper deals with the way an image animated through the stational liturgy, a performative act par excelence, created a sense of unity. It thus discusses the iconic presence as a unifying element. |
