Description | Since 2010, we have done field research among Altai Uriankhai ethnic group in Khovd and Bayan-Ölgii aimags, Mongolia, lasting several months every year, recording historical oral tradition. In 2013 and 2015, we made field work among Altai Uriankhais living in Xinjiang. Main purpose of our research is to describe contents of the local oral tradition in the Mongolian countryside, its internal structure, its meaning and functional implications for the community. This paper exemplifies our approach by a comparison of one shared oral narrative of the Altai Uriankhai group demonstrating the emic understanding of correlations between the sacred countryside and course of events in the local human society. |
