• Description: The study analyses and evaluates the works of Jaroslav Mezník devoted to urban history. This landmark in the use of structuralist and prosopographic approaches created a model – still valid today – for the development of medieval town councils in the large royal cities. In the second part, the paper reviews the follow-up research and in the third part it focuses on selected problematic issues.
