Description The author of the present study analyzes the mutual relations of the Czech and, partly, Slovak literary avantgardism and catholically oriented literature in interwar Czechoslovakia in the 1920-1940s, revealing not only big differences, but also topoi, common places, hidden currents connecting poetics and even ideological sources, such as Czech „poetism“ and surrealism, Catholic modernism and the so-called „protectorate“ prose developing, as a rule, under the impact of expressionism; especially Brno in the 1920-1930s represented a specific centre of this current both in literature and theatre. The hidden relations of the artistic phenomena seemingly contradictory on the surface represent an integral part of postsecularism, presupposing albeit fragmentary returns to religious sources including also poetological principles of the construction of an artefact. The study takes into consideration the works of Czech poetists as well as surrealists, such as Vítězslav Nezval, Konstantin Biebl, Jaroslav Seifert, Jiří Wolker, František Halas from the avantgardist group, and Jakub Deml, Jaroslav Durych, Jan Zahradníček, Egon Hostovský, Jaroslav Havlíček, Jan Čep and at that time also Jan Drda and Václav Řezáč from the group of Catholic modernists and „protectorate“ psychological prose.
