| Description | After the blows of the Ist World War (1914-1918; about 100 men death) was Modřice a part of the new Czechoslowak Republic. Although years after the war brought another development of industry mainly supported by closeness of Brno and presence of railway, the political power stayed with the old agricultural families. The town’s economy was still very much oriented to agriculture which partially affected the structure of industry (canneries). But in this period increased also the number of other industry branches (metal processing, chemical factory, brickworks). The political life was still strong influenced by nacionalist struggles. Each nationality had its own school. Majority of German Modřice inhabitants was particularly radicalised after the Hitler’s rise to power in Germany. The German-Sudeten Party, which later absorbed the agrarians, had to wait for it full victory in municipal elections until 1938. |
