Description | Guido List, one of the leading figures in the so-called völkisch movement, is often regarded as a forerunner of National Socialism in Germany. In the present contribution, this thesis is called into question and an alternative approach is designed, which makes it possible to enter into völkisch thought structures in detail. This article is an attempt to use the example of the image of the Jews to discuss the roots, bases, inspirations (and their concrete implementation) and after-effects of List’s worldview on the basis of a textual analysis. Inevitably, the analysis brings out possible similarities with today’s xenophobic discourses and illustrates the argumentation in xenophobic minded texts. |
