Description | The discussion paper reflects approaches to regional geography teaching at lower secondary schools in Czechia. It takes issue with the currently prevailing descriptive and encyclopaedic concept of regional geography teaching and proposes four action theses leading to the desired innovation. Action theses are as follows: 1. to abandon gradually the traditional, descriptive and encyclopaedic approach to regional geography teaching and to replace it with thematic studies, 2. to increase the share of problem-oriented study of places and regions of various scales, 3. to innovate traditionally conceived regional geography textbooks through the implementation of spatial-analytic approaches and postmodern geographical thought, 4. to capture the graduates of geography teacher education and to offer them high-quality in-service training courses. The conclusion stresses that the action theses are so ambitious that they can only be fulfilled with the help of all geographers in Czechia. |
