Description | Acute pancreatitis is an inflammatory disease of the pancreas caused by the activation of its own catalytic enzymes within the pancreatic tissue. A patient with acute pancreatitis may present only mild abdominal pain; another patient may require the support of several failing organ functions shortly after the onset of the symptom. In other words, acute pancreatitis has a very broad spectrum of symptom severity. |
