| Description | In intensive care, endocrine emergencies may be the sole reason for admission (diabetic ketoacidosis, diabetic hyperosmolar coma, hypoglycemic coma, rarely myxedema and thyrotoxic crisis, adrenal and pheochromocytoma crisis), or may significantly complicate the patient's critical illness. The chapter focuses on a brief overview, differential diagnosis and principles of therapy of the most clinically relevant endocrine conditions leading to threats to the patient's basic vital functions. |
