| Description | The study deals with the relationship between image media and text. Are they in contact, or are they two entirely separate media? In what ways does text or verbal discourse penetrate the image? Is it possible to achieve a "pure" visual image, as modernist abstraction has strived? And what requirements does the painting impose on its viewers? We answer these questions on the background of W. J. T. Mitchell's theory, particularly his book Picture Theory. |
