Description | The exhibition was created as a response to the Year of St. Joseph which was announced on December 8, 2020 by Pope Francis. In the tradition of the Church, St. Joseph is the patron saint of workers and craftsmen, and the exhibition therefore presents workshops of arts and crafts which in past cooperated with church institutions and thanks to their location were connected to Petrov in Brno. The woodcarving and restoration workshop of the Kotrba brothers, located at Petrov 5, became in the 20th century famous for new furnishing of sacral interiors as well as for the restoration of rare Gothic and Baroque monuments. The second no less important workshop in the Petrov complex was a tailor’s workshop of the Dittinger family in the building of the local rectory. Countless pieces of liturgical textiles came from here excelling especially in the embroidery with original designs. These paraments enriched the inventory of many churches not only in the Brno diocese. The third local workshop belonged to the artistic bookbinder Jindřich Svoboda and was until the beginning of the 21st century located at Petrov 8. Svoboda’s bookbindings are still very popular for their artistic quality and perfect craftsmanship. |
