Description This paper proposes a fresh alternative for operationalisation of populist attitudes – the bifactor model, which, unlike other commonly adapted strategies, enables to separate the unique contribution of each subdimension from the common effect of populist attitudes shared by all subdimensions, and consequently consider populist attitudes both at the general level and at the level of their subdimensions. Using the original data from an online survey conducted in November 2020 on a representative sample of the Czech population (N = 2006), we demonstrate advantages and limitations of the bifactor model on explaining populist vote and satisfaction with democracy.
