Description | The four-volume "Handbook on the History of Conflict Resolution in Europe" deals with legal and extra-legal ways of deciding conflicts between individuals as well as between persons and their authorities. Written by experts from many European countries, the handbook is intended to serve as a central reference medium for the historical dimension of all aspects of dispute resolution. The structure of the work is based on the four epochs of Antiquity, the Middle Ages, the Early Modern Period and the 19th/20th century. After an introduction to the respective epoch, the actors, procedures and institutions characteristic of the period are presented and core questions and central problems of dispute resolution in fields of conflict typical of the time are dealt with. The European perspective of the handbook is reflected in overviews of individual countries. Chapter 31 is devoted to the development of conflict resolution in Czechoslovakia, since 1993 in the Czech Republic. |
