Description | The chapter presents a brief outline of the history and current situation of Czech political journalism. As the author argues, the intellectual tradition of Czech political journalism (as well as its connection to literary journalism) was seriously interrupted by both the commercialization of the press in the post-1989 years and the declarative values of objectivity and impartiality that still serve to camouflage the political interests of the media owners rather than provide a practical professional imperative. The chapter concludes that for most of its history, Czech journalism has been partisan, and only in the recent decades has it hidden its nature – right when party politics itself is in a deep crisis. |
