Description | Social media and its many facets are a prominent topic in adolescents’ daily life. Oftentimes, these apps incorporate gamified, persuasive design mechanisms that aim to build habitual use. In this paper, we present ”Out Smart!” - a game that playfully depicts these mechanisms and aims to encourage users to reflect on their social media use. We investigate whether game elements and the incorporated conversational interface support this goal and discuss whether ”OutSmart!” may accommodate players with a different level of gaming expertise. Subsequently, we present the findings from playtests complemented by participatory design sessions and a survey. Results suggest that the game and its conversational interface can unlock their full potential in a combination with group discussions and a participatory approach. |
