Description | The chapter is a historical excursion into the development of the ideal of professionalism in social work. The word professio in Latin means public confession, manifestation, attestation, announcement, registration and also the practice of something. It is related to the verb profiteor - to publicly profess, declare, announce, subscribe to something, appoint to declare oneself. Even the word professor has the same Latin root, it is in its original meaning a public teacher, a professor of some opinions. Czech uses the term profession, which is a role in the world of work with a broader meaning than occupation or profession. A profession is tied to a certain type of qualification, is associated with certain expectations of the type of work and work results, and also with a certain social prestige. Within a single occupation, a person may have different types of jobs (specialisations) and different job roles (positions in the organisations in which they are employed). An occupation is a regular work activity. |
