Description | This study looks at the history of the Brno Brickworks (Brněnské cihelny) national enterprise, which operated between 1950 and 1952. Altogether, the enterprise comprised 13 factories, two of which were not operational, however, due to workforce shortages. Attention is focused on the establishment of the enterprise, its organisation, economic management and operation, which correspond to the period the enterprise operated in (planned economy, etc.). Employees at the enterprise spent a lot of time and effort on reorganisation following on from the previous Moravia-Silesian brickworks, creating a new enterprise structure and identity. During 1952, however, the Brno brickworks were incorporated into the Gustav Kliment Brickworks national enterprise based in Brno-Bohunice. Thus the brief history of the Brno Brickworks is mainly evidence of the problems in the socialist management of companies at the end of the 1940s and early 1950s. |
