Description | Voyeur XXI by the Ukrainian artist Alena Kolesnikova examines the fact that the age we live in is a visual one. We are constantly encouraged to look and explore the world primarily in its visual form. Kolesnikova focuses on a certain voyeuristic aspect of the whole situation. The possibility to look at people, places, and events from anonymous safety of the virtual space awakens our desire to watch without being seen. While reflecting on another famous voyeuristic project - Jennicam (1996-2003) by the American artist Jennifer Kaye Ringley, Voyeur XXI encourages us to “look” into the phenomenon of contemporary voyeurism and to contemplate the question of intimity, interpersonal relationships, and their future in the age of modern technology. This exhibition was a part of the three exhibitions cycle named "Start to see". |
