Description | The article presents the artistic decoration of the baroque monastic libraries of the Premonstratensian order in the Bohemian province of the order and focuses mainly on a reconstruction of their programmes of ideas. These are the library hall in the former canonry at Hradisko near Olomouc (1702, 1704), the Theological and Philosophical Halls of the Strahov Monastery in Prague (1721–1727 and 1794, respectively), the library halls of the monasteries in Želiv (1729), Teplá (1720s, around 1750), Nová Říše (1770) and Jasov (now in Slovakia; completed in 1776) and the unpreserved library of the former canonry at Louka near Znojmo (1778). |
