Description The first volume of the correspondence edition of Alois Musil (1868-1944), orientalist, Arabist, theologian and traveller, traces the cultural and political affiliations of the social networks of the first Czechoslovak Republic, in connection with the founding of the Oriental Institute. The selection of persons for the edition series is centred on the circle of scientists and high-ranking officials of ministries and chambers of commerce and trade, who were involved in the construction of the structure, law, statutes and selection of members of the Oriental and Slavic Institute. The generation of the these "founding fathers" – like the lawyer and foreign trade expert Zdeněk Fafl, the lawyer, foreign trade minister and head of the Foreign Trade Office Rudolf Hotowetz and archaeologist and ethnologist Lubor Niederle - testify in this edition about their activities, by way of their correspondence with Alois Musil. The second volume of the correspondence edition is dedicated to the correspondence between this prominent orientalist with the agricultural economist Edvard Reich (1885–1943).
