| Description | The paper focuses on the planned reconstruction of Veveří Castle at a time when the estate was purchased by Gustav, Prince of Vasa, son of the deposed Swedish King Gustav IV Adolph, who began using the castle as his summer residence. The focus of the text lies on the hitherto minimally reflected plans relating to Veveří, located in Sweden as part of the so-called ‘Vasasamlingen’. The plans created by the Viennese architect Heinrich Koch clearly show that the Prince decided to make Veveří his primary residence, and the planned rebuilding of Veveří is presented as a clear demonstration of Prince Gustav’s succession ambition or his symbolic protest with references to the Swedish royal line. Koch’s 1831 project of a representative aristocratic residence in the spirit of Romantic Neo-Gothicism also departs from the prevailing line of state classicism, placing Veveří among the early examples of historicism in our geographical area. |
