Description | Diabetic foot syndrome (DFS) is a serious medical and social problem. The care of patients with SDN requires a multidisciplinary approach; consistent preventive measures and timely adequate treatment can significantly reduce the percentage of diabetic complications, including the risk of limb amputation. The basic rationale for the creation of the publication Diabetic Foot Syndrome - Prevention, Diagnosis and Therapy, an adapted recommended practice based on international guidelines, includes the growing need to provide quality podiatric care for the ever-increasing number of diabetic patients and to extend the knowledge from the existing recommended practices of the Czech Diabetes Society of the Czech Academy of Sciences. This recommended practice is a Czech adaptation of the international guidelines developed by the International Working Group on the Diabetic Foot (IWGDF) and updated in 2019-2020. The publication is intended for healthcare professionals involved in the care of patients with SDN (diabetologists, internists, surgeons, angiologists, prosthetists, general practitioners, etc. ) The individual chapters focus on prevention of ulceration, options for relief of foot defects, diagnosis, prognosis and management of lower limb ischaemia in patients with ulceration, the issue of infection in SDN is discussed, an overview of possible interventions aimed at healing of chronic foot ulceration in diabetics is presented, and options for classification of SDN are presented. The text is supplemented with diagrams, graphs and overview tables. The publication also includes a slim handbook, Diabetic Foot Syndrome, Practical Recommendations for Prevention and Treatment, which summarizes the main principles of SDN prevention, description and classification of diabetic foot ulcerations, principles of SDN treatment, and includes practical appendices.
