Description Today, millions of people are addicted to various drugs, including short- and medium-term benzodiazepines and so-called Z-hypnotics. Severe and often life-threatening withdrawal symptoms, including delirium, often prevent their immediate and successful discontinuation. One of the long-established treatments is to convert patients to a therapeutic equivalent (usually diazepam) that has a long half-life. Stabilization is followed by a gradual reduction of doses, possibly to placebo (detoxification), without the patient necessarily experiencing any stressful change in the size of the dosage form. Hard gelatin capsules are suitable here, which may contain, in addition to the therapeutic equivalent, adjuvant drugs from a number of antipsychotics, antidepressants and beta-blockers, which alleviate or almost eliminate withdrawal symptoms.
