Description | Slow soleus (SOL) muscles of 21- to 28-day-old inbred rats of the Lewis strain were grafted into the fast extensor digitorum longus (EDL) muscles in young adult euthyroid, hyperthyroid or hypothyroid inbred rats of the same strain. One to 12 months after the operation, rats were killed and muscle histochemical profiles and expression of myosin heavy chain (MyHC) isoforms were determined. From our results, it can be concluded that normal level of thyroid hormones is necessary for the expression of fast MyHC isoforms in the regenerating SOL muscle reinnervated by the fast EDL nerve. |
