Description The authors of this paper propose the OSIA BI300 bone conduction implant to be feasible for implantation in children (“non-complicated cases”), without preoperative CT scan. In my experience as a pediatric surgeon, there is great danger of hitting the dura or sigmoid sinus when blindly drilling into the bone without having first performed a CT scan (see LION surgery;) where the surgeon (Antonio Delle Volpe) drilled 4 holes in a 5 year-old till he found bone where the screw was stable). In fact, Posta et al. state that “For safety purposes, knowing the position of sigmoid sinus is also important.”
