Description | The presentation contributes to the topic of hate speech by focusing on body shaming in online comments in the NetLang corpus. Adopting the sociopragmatic perspective of conflict talk (Kakavá 1999), it shows how conflict is discursively negotiated among online users. The presentation focuses on conflicting representations, conflict escalation and extended disagreements. It shows how online commenting oscillates between affirmation and dissent and how it indexes personal identity construction and performance of the self. |
