Description | In recent years, several field operations have been carried out with the aim of deepening our knowledge of the palaeoenvironment of Mont-Beuvray. At the site level, carpological, dendrological and anthracological analyses of samples are underway to answer questions about the use and management of plant products in the production and consumption economy. With the acquisition of intra-site palynological data, the question of Bibracte's environment and plant landscape can also be raised and put into perspective with the analyses conducted outside the oppidum. Geophysical surveys and multi-proxy analyses (micromorphology, sediment geochemistry, archaeobotany, palaeoparasitology, diatom studies) on trench profiles or sediment cores were carried out at different scales, from the oppidum to the surrounding mountains. These studies have highlighted the importance of erosive sedimentary processes on the soils over the long term, since the Neolithic period at Bibracte. They have also enabled an innovative approach to the question of "empty space" in archaeological sites. |
